Dubai sees air cargo falls

The UAE's Dubai International Airport says air freight volumes in August dropped 7.9 per cent, from 198,543 tonnes down to 182,781 tonnes.

Year to date, totals handled were down 1.2 per cent. Aircraft movements were up 2.6 per cent on the 25,202 posted during the same period last year, while year-to-date movements were up 5.5 per cent.

As well as larger windows, electric sunshades and bidets in the lavatories, All Nippon Airways also has one onboard toilet with a window on its new B787 Dreamliner. The Japanese airline took delivery of the plane on Sunday.

ECAir (Equatorial Congo Airlines), the new national flag carrier of the Republic of the Congo, Africa launched 24 September 2011 with a three times a day, seven days a week service on the Brazzaville-Pointe-Noire route using a B737-300 with 120 seats, configured 12 business and 108 economy class. New routes to international destinations and the acquisition of additional aircraft are planned.

In the Philippines, a Philippine Airlines (PAL) employee union says its members will fight plans to outsource thousands of jobs in catering, ground handling and telephone reservations, claiming only a few workers have accepted separation packages offered by the carrier, which wants to lay off 2,600 employees by the end of this week, cutting its staff to 5,000.
