P&W wins Korean deal

Jet engine maker Pratt & Whitney has inked a US$300 million deal for Korean Air to use its engines to power six new Airbus A330 aircraft. The deal with the Korean carrier is for 14 new engines, including two spares. Deliveries begin next year.

Air France bodies not burned, did not drown

The 50 bodies recovered from the Atlantic after the Air France 477 crash showed no sign of burns or smoke damage and had no water in their lungs, and so did not drown, leading investigators to suggest the aircraft may have broken up suddenly at 35,000 feet and fallen into the sea.

JAL cuts services

After Japanese flight authorities temporarily loosened their use-it-or-lose-it slot rule for international services, Japan Airlines said it will cut services on routes linking Tokyo's Narita Airport with Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei, Seoul and Delhi and linking Osaka’s Kansai International Airport with Shanghai and Seoul.

UK sees 11 per cent fewer flights

Air traffic service company Nats says Britain's air traffic controllers handled 11 per cent fewer flights last month than in May 2008, a total 196,806 flights compared with 221,885.

Jade inks Austrian deal
