The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has named Cathay Pacific Airways ceo Tony Tyler chairman of the IATA Board of Governors. Tyler succeeds Samer Majali, ceo of Royal Jordanian Airlines, who served as chairman from June 2008. The appointment is for a one year term.

France’s Air France “within days” will replace the airspeed sensors implicated in the June 1 AF447 crash after an Air France union said it “deplored” the carrier’s decision to continue operating twin-aisle Airbus A330 and A340 models and said its members should agree to fly A330s only after at least two of the three sensors on each plane had been upgraded.

Emirates inks Alliance deal

Emirates airline has signed a fleet management agreement with the Engine Alliance, which makes engines for the Airbus A380. Under the agreement, worth more than US$3 billion, Engine Alliance will repair and overhaul the GP7200 engines used on Emirates' Airbus A380 fleet.
