North American Airlines’ and World Airways’ parent Global Aero Logistics has changed its name to Global Aviation Holdings to better represent its focus on airfreight and passenger services. NAA operates passenger charters, World flies both passenger and cargo charters.

Lufthansa sets Austrian deadline

New hub for FedEx

Federal Express began operations at its new hub facility at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport in Guangzhou, southern China earlier this month. The facility features its own ramp control tower – a first for an international air express cargo company facility in China – to better handle the 136 flights per week into and out of the new hub.

Hot on the heels of job losses at Scotland’s Prestwick Airport – and for many of the same reasons – some 90 workers at Manchester Airport, UK face losing their jobs due to falling freight loads (down 42 per cent) and passenger numbers (down 10 per cent). Bournemouth and East Midlands airports, also run by Manchester Airport Group (MAG), face smaller staff cuts.
