Emirates SkyCargo manager Australia and New Zealand Glenn Baxter has resigned and left the company. He advised his intention to resign last Friday and under company policy was asked to leave the same day. Melbourne-based Baxter, who was the carrier’s inaugural cargo manager when the airline began flying to Australia, is expected to take a teaching postion with the Melbourne University.

Malaysia Airlines has increased its fuel hedging. It will pay US$89 a barrel of crude for 43 per cent of its fuel this year, according to ceo Idris Jala. Crude oil hit US$110.20 a barrel earlier this week.

Singapore Air Cargo and DHL Global Forwarding donated a trip to Singapore at this week’s Watsonia Grower Dinner held at the Burswood Hotel, Perth, Australia.
The prize went to pig exporters Graham and Belinda Dent. A large number of female pigs reared in Western Australia are exported as fresh meat to Singapore.

Panalpina 13.4 per cent up

For 2007, forwarding and logistics major Panalpina posted a 13.4 per cent gain in profits. EBITDA was up 15.4 per cent and net earnings up 14.8 per cent.
Air cargo totals increased by 8.4 per cent to 947,000 tonnes.
