Australia’s Toll Group today confirmed its intention to launch a takeover for BALtrans Holdings Limited. BALtrans is one of the largest Asia-based freight forwarding and logistics companies and has an international network spanning all major cities in Asia, North America, Europe, Africa and Middle East and annual revenues of approximately A$690m.

Air-France-KLM details Alitalia bid

Air France-KLM has upped the stakes on its acquisition plans for Alitalia by offering a US$750m fleet refurbishment plan. Alitalia unions now want to meet AF-KL management to talk about job losses, which AF-KL has already said will be no higher than Alitalia’s own redundancy plans.

Tiger orders 20 A320s

Tiger Airways has converted options for 20 A320 planes to enable expansion in key markets including Australia and said it expects to finish taking delivery of the new single-aisle aircraft by 2016, when it will have a fleet of 70 planes. The deal boosts Tiger Air's total aircraft orders to 66.

Assembly schedule confirmed for 777 freighter

Boeing is set to begin production of its new 777 Freighter. Engineers recently completed more than 90 per cent of the design work and the company will start assembly of the first of the new freighters in early 2008 at its Everett facility in Washington.

Freight traffic decline for SIA

Singapore Airlines Cargo has reported a decline in cargo traffic for November 2007. Overall cargo capacity reduced by 2.9 per cent and this led to the 2.4 per cent decline in traffic (measured in freight tonne kilometres). As a result, cargo load factor (CLF) improved by 0.4 percentage point compared to the same period last year.
