Qantas Freight is expected to extend its freighter service between Shanghai and New York to Viracopos (VCP) Sao Paulo. No details have been confirmed by the carrier, but some Mascot forwarders are aware of the proposed extension and most say it could be a good move.

ACAP contacted Qantas Freight for confirmation but had not received a reply as this edition went to press.

Agility targets further expansion in Australian region

Following its takeover of LEP International Pty Ltd in Australia and LEP International (NZ) Ltd, Agility has signalled it intends to further expand in Australia, writes Jenny Burns.

Agility had had an association with LEP International for a number of years before it purchased the remaining LEP shares from Main Freight for AU$65 million as part of a move to further strengthen its growing network. Agility also recently spent HK$100 million expanding its Asia network -- and more acquisitions are planned.

Record profit for Cathay Pacific but cargo weaker

Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific Airways has reported a profit attributable to shareholders of HK$2,581 million in its 2007 Interim Results -- up 54.7 per cent on the HK$1,668 million reported in 2006 and a record for the Group. The result was largely driven by strong demand and rising yields on the passenger side of the operation.

Sydney Airport to have dedicated police support

A full-time policing presence is now in force at Sydney airport to help with all community related law enforcement issues. Previously, the role was filled by the New South Wales Police (Botany) Local Area Command on a needs basis.

ATR 42-300 freighters on Toll network

As expected, Toll Priority Express has added an ATR 42-300F freighter to its Australian network.  The aircraft, the first of at least two, is operated by Jetcraft Aviation which has a number of smaller freighters committed to Toll Priority services, some of them carrying Toll livery.
