LiveAir appoints officers

LiveAir has held its first meeting since incorporation and elected the following office bearers: Andrew Niemeyer is chairman, Barry Carr (Atlas) is vice chair and secretary and treasurer is Andrew Pennefather (Global Livestock Marketing). Other committee members include David Gardiner (Austock Rural) as export executive, while technical executive is Gregg Jacques (Animal Crates Australia).

Jetstar seeking partners

Australian carrier Jetstar says it may add as many as six more interline alliances over the next year after it signed deals with Etihad and Aircalin. The Qantas group carrier also is positioning Darwin as a Northern Australian hub, with at least three aircraft to be based there and it says it intends to operate 26 international and 43 domestic flights to and from the Northern Territory each week.

In-trouble Irish carrier Aer Lingus has revealed it spent more than EUR5.8m last year defending a second takeover bid from its majority shareholder, Ryanair. It spent EUR7.8m in 2007 to stave off Ryanair's first bid.

Finnish carrier Finnair’s ceo Jukka Heinonen has described his airline’s early 2009 results as “bad”, “frightening”, and “extremely ugly” after turnover declined by 10 per cent to EUR516 million and (corrected) business profit collapsed from EUR7.8 million last year to a negative EUR47.5 million.
