Polar Air Cargo plans to suspend its once-weekly B747-400 freighter on the Australia-US route and move it into Asia - US service for its Spring schedule. This move is being made to optimise load factors for the aircraft, which had been operating a single weekend flight. A Polar representative stated that it is constantly evaluating the schedule to optimise routing, revenue and costs.

Delta signs Star deal

US carrier Delta’s maintenance division, Delta TechOps, has signed an eight-year ‘power-by-the-hour’ contract extension with Copenhagen-based Star Air. The deal, worth more than US$55 million, means Delta TechOps will provide engine overhaul and repair services for the 22 CF6-80A2/C2 engines that power Star Air's fleet of 11 Boeing 767-200SF cargo planes.

In the USA, New York’s airports have reported a 23 per cent plunge in cargo traffic for December 2008 and a fall of 10.2 per cent for the full year. John F. Kennedy International Airport had its sharpest decline in cargo traffic in seven years; a 28.6 per cent drop in December made worse by falls in Asian carrier traffic.

Gati cancels Air India wet lease
