Malaysia Cargo to review Australian GSA role

Malaysia Airlines Cargo has invited major general sales agents (GSA) in Australia including World Aviation Systems Cargo, Air Cargo Partners Worldwide, GSA Services and Wexco including incumbent representative GSA Australia, to a meeting in Sydney 29 March to discuss the airline’s cargo representation requirements going forward.
It is understood GSA Australia was not prepared to sign a new contract under the terms offered.

Payloads fail to match capacity increase for Cathay

Cathay Pacific, together with its wholly-owned subsidiary, Dragonair, carried less freight but more passengers in February than in the same month in 2006.
The cargo tonnage carried by the two airlines fell 1.2 per cent – to 110,006 tonnes. The cargo load factor also dropped, by 4.8 percentage points to 63.7 per cent, though capacity - measured in available cargo and mail tonne kilometres – was up by 10.2 per cent year on year.

Martinair to increase fuel surcharge

Dutch freighter specialist Martinair Cargo will increase its current fuel surcharge from
€ 0.45 to € 0.50 per kilogram, from 26 March. The carrier cites “developments on the fuel market” for the decision.

US and Canada ink Open Skies pact

United States and Canada have signed an Open Skies air transport agreement to expand and liberalize their bilateral civil aviation relations. A spokesperson said the new agreement significantly modernizes U.S.-Canadian aviation relations by allowing airlines to make commercial decisions with minimal government intervention. It builds upon the 1995 trans-border Open Skies agreement to provide for open routes to third countries, market-based pricing, open routes for cargo flights, and a liberal charter regime. It also includes all-cargo seventh freedom rights, allowing airlines to perform international cargo operations with no connection to their country of origin.

Lack of awareness barrier to business taking full advantage of FTA’s – DHL survey

On the eve of the next round of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations between China and Australia, research by DHL, has found that 78 per cent of businesses are positive about the benefits that FTAs provide for international trade, however 39 per cent of those surveyed are not aware of Australia’s current trade deals and almost half (47 per cent) are unaware of the current FTA negotiations.

New domestic express service for China
