Scandinavian airline group SAS has posted a first-quarter net loss of 1.08 billion kronor (US$181 million), blaming higher fuel costs and growing competition, and says it will cut 1,000 jobs to reduce costs.

Brussels-based Cargo B Airlines' president and chief executive Robert Kuijpers says the carrier has appointed Sydney-based Wexco as general sales and service agent (GSSA). The all-freighter carrier began operations in October 2007 and operates three B747-200F. The airline operates mainly to the Middle and Far East, Africa and South America under a Belgian Aircraft Operating Certificate.

Anchorage, US-based Northern Air Cargo has been sold to Seattle, US-based Saltchuk Resources for an undisclosed sum. Saltchuk plans to upgrade Northern Air's fleet and also grow the company.
