Former British Airways boss Sir Rod Eddington has been appointed inaugural chair of Infrastructure Australia, the Australian government’s advisory council on future infrastructure needs. Infrastructure Australia provides advice to Australian governments about gaps and bottlenecks that hinder economic growth and prosperity. It will also identify investment priorities and policy and regulatory reforms that will be necessary to enable timely and co-ordinated delivery of national infrastructure investment.

Rising fuel costs are limiting foreign cargo airline route expansion into African nations because many of the goods exported from the region are not price-elastic and exporters cannot absorb higher freight charges.
