China Southern profit up 786 per cent

China Southern Airlines, China’s largest carrier by fleet size, says its 2007 profit soared 786 per cent on the stronger yuan and higher passenger numbers. Passengers carried jumped 15.6 per cent to 56.9 million, while cargo and mail volume climbed 6.5 per cent to 872,000 tons. Net profit jumped to 1.85 billion yuan (US$264 million).

India short of flight inspectors

Aeroflot adds Almaty freighter

Aeroflot Cargo has launched a new weekly DC10 freighter service from Frankfurt Hahn, Germany to Almaty, Kazakhstan via Moscow. The first departure operated with a full 55 tonne payload, of which 40 tonnes was destined for Almaty. The airline intends a second frequency by early May.
