The US’s Freight Feeder Aircraft Corporation is to upgrade its Freight Feeder aircraft by slightly widening the cargo bay to accommodate six of the larger 96in x 125in ‘main deck’ standard industry containers and pallets, and has re-designated the aircraft the FF5000.

BOC banks on freight growth

CBFCA legal road show kicks off again in March

The Customs Brokers and Forwarders Council of Australia (CBFCA), in conjunction with Hunt & Hunt Lawyers, has for some time provided "Member Forums" on legal issues. These popular sessions have been conducted twice a year by Hunt & Hunt Partner Andrew Hudson in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide. Hudson also is a regular presenter at CBFCA State Conventions and the CBFCA National Conference.

AaE forced to cut Melbourne staff

Australian air Express has begun laying off staff at its Melbourne facilities following the recent move of Emirates Airline's Australian handling to Toll-Dnata. It is understood many staff, mainly clerical and warehouse workers, have been retrenched. AaE lost the Emirates contract in December 2007, both Sydney and Melbourne, after making significant investments in new infrastructure and warehousing. The staff cutbacks follow a company review of operational costs.

HTL Logistics to automate cargo

Sri Lanka-based freight forwarding company HTL Logistics Limited, has contracted Kale Consultants to develop a web-enabled system to automate its ocean, air and multi-modal freight operations. The system will encompass various functions including sales, export, import, international trade documentation, tracking and integration with third-party applications. It is hoped the new system will automate manual processes and will help HTL reduce human errors and optimise operational costs.

Customs moves IT processing system to new provider

Australian Customs has begun moving its controversial ICS main IT processing services to a new service provider with completion scheduled for the end of March. Launched in late 2005 and hailed at the time as state-of-the-art technology, the multi-million dollar IT system has been beset with problems blamed on flaws in its initial design. The move means the existing infrastructure that supports Customs Cargo Business Systems will be replaced and relocated with the temporary loss of its Industry Test capability. Customs estimates that all processes will be completed and that general use access will be available again from 05 March.
