US shippers and commentators continue to voice concerns over legislation that will require all cargo bound for the US to be scanned at the port of origin by 2012. Importers say they doubt that all overseas ports that send cargo to the US will be prepared to spend the estimated US$5m per scanner required to comply with the legislation. Other commentators have said the technology will have to improve to make the scheme feasible.

CSA, Emirates code share

Under a code-sharing deal with Emirates SkyCargo, Czech airline CSA is to launch a cargo flight between Prague and Hong Kong, stopping over in Dubai. CSA will have the right to fill half of the Boeing 747-200F to be used on the weekly flights, which start on November 9.

British Airways and DHL are reported to be terminating their Zimbabwean operations. BA’s withdrawal October 28 will leave the country's international passenger air market dominated by Air Zimbabwe, with other carriers forced to interline. BA said ongoing losses forced its withdrawal.

Freightways profit flat
