SIA Cargo has begun freighter flights between Belgium and the USA following a change to the Air Services Agreement for cargo services. The new agreement, which includes Seventh Freedom Traffic Rights, allows SIA Cargo to operate flights between European countries and the US without originating from, or returning to, Singapore.

Thai Airways International and the Thai Airfreight Forwarders Association (TAFA) have signed a partnership agreement with German company Cargogate Flughafen Munich to establish a distribution centre at Munich airport to distribute Thai farm products to European countries.  Thai Airways already operates a daily flight to Munich and from December 1, will add a second. Each flight will carry up to 20 tonnes. Thai will offer special freight rates on the service for Thai producers. -JH

Ethiopian Airlines has leased two Boeing 747-200 freighters from Kentucky, US-based South Air to take advantage of increasing demand for flower exports. One was delivered in the past week and the second is scheduled for arrival end December.

Singapore's Changi Airport reports a record 4,300 weekly scheduled flights in its Northern Winter season which began 28 October. This is an increase of more than 100 weekly flights compared to the Northern Summer season from 25 March 2007 to 27 October 2007.

Air France Cargo ceo Marc Boudier says Air France-KLM wants to launch a new Chinese cargo company in 2008 which will absorb China Southern’s cargo business. The Europeans will own 49 per cent of the jv company. The new company will use existing China Southern capacity. China Southern recently joined Air France-KLM in the Skyteam airline alliance. -JH
