The Vietnamese government has licensed the country’s first privately owned airline, Vietjet. The new carrier says initially it will operate domestic routes between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Danang next year and hopes eventually to offer flights to Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok. It joins the country's three state-owned airlines: Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines and Vasco. -JH

Malaysian Airline’s 2007 third-quarter net profit was up 52 per cent at 364 million ringgit from 240 million ringgit the previous year. Revenue was up 15 per cent at 4.23 billion ringgit (US$1.3 billion). The airline plans to cut costs by as much as a million ringgit by 2012.

Schenker moves in Brisbane

Integrated logistics and freight major Schenker will open its new, centralised 26,000 square metre warehouse and office facility at Brisbane Airport tomorrow, Wednesday.
Schenker's general manager Queensland Margaret Kelly said moving from five small facilities to one provides a more efficient operation for customers and staff.
"Having all staff together in one facility will improve relationships, processes and thus, an improved team work environment," she said.
Schenker Australia recently merged with global provider BAX. It now has more than 1,200 staff across 36 locations in Australia and seven in New Zealand. -JH
