Vargoczky to head Australian chapter of Cargo 2000

Cargo 2000 has formed a local chapter in Australia to coordinate the quality management system in the region.

BAWC improves yields in soft cargo market

British Airways World Cargo (BAWC) has reported commercial revenues (flown revenues plus fuel surcharges) of GBP618 million for the full year, a decrease of 3.1 per cent against the same period last year. After the impact of exchange rate movements is removed, commercial revenues were down by 0.5 per cent. The airline has also made provision of GBP350 million in its full year accounts, for fines it expects to pay in relation to allegations of anti-competitive activity on long-haul passenger and cargo fuel surcharges.

Emirates acquires more freighters to meet demand

Emirates SkyCargo has confirmed it will wet lease three B747-400ERF aircraft from Netherlands-based global express company, TNT and the first aircraft is scheduled for delivery by 27 May.

Express operator TNT, has named Christopher Bain as general manager, Northern Region. The move is in line with the company’s long-term growth strategy, which includes the further strengthening its presence in Malaysia. The company last year embarked on an aggressive growth strategy and invested over RM15 million in new facilities and services.

Lufthansa not to renew freighter contract

Lufthansa Cargo will charter an additional MD-11 freighter from World Airways from 01 July. The US charter company is already operating two MD-11 freighters for Lufthansa Cargo. The contract on three B747-200F aircraft chartered from Air Atlanta Icelandic expires on 30 June and is not being renewed.

CX carry more passengers but cargo softens

Cathay Pacific Airways (CX) traffic figures for April 2007 show the combined Cathay Pacific/Dragonair passenger load factor rising above 80 per cent for the first time this year, spurred by the long Ching Ming and Easter holiday in Hong Kong early in the month. Cargo was a different story however, with the cargo load factor slipping almost five percentage points as the downturn in the market continued.
